With so many bag companies out there we strive not only to offer a well made product (quality) at an affordable price (value) but we want to give our company personality. If you want to know how it all started then please read on.
The Old Bag Story.
In August 2005 I, Sally, was sitting on our local beach in Devon with my 5 children surrounded by carrier bags. I thought we need a practical, strong fun beach bag so I went home and designed one!
There are so many bag companies I wanted to be different so when Nick, my husband, came up with the name The Old Bag Company I thought it was perfect and I became the number one Old Bag! I decided to involve my 5 children so the ranges are named after them, except my son Will who is waiting for me to launch a male bag! Each bag has a label inside with a message from them giving the product personality. They also model all the bags.
And thats how it all started. Since the first range of beach bags I have gone on to design a range of everyday bags, handbags,leather handbags,babychanging bags and accessories to include hand made purses, beach towels and mugs. All the bags are made of canvas, light weight, waterproof inside and machine washable. They have lots of pockets inside and out (designed by a woman, me, for a woman, you) making them very organised practical Old Bags.
I donate a percenage of the sales of the Ellie Junior bags to a local charity, Families for Children, an Adoption Agency and Charity Turst who place children from all over the country with families in Devon and Cornwall. I chose this charity as The Old Bag Company is a family business and I am adopted. Inside each Ellie Junior bag is a label thanking you for buying this bag and helping the charity.
Loved by the media - The Old Bag Company has been featured in numerous national and regional magazines and newspapers and also featured on ITV Westcounty, BBC Spotlight, Radio 4 and the Old Bags have been in The Big Brother House. The Company has won numerous awards over the 5 years of trading, raising the brand awareness and helping to put it firmly in the accessory market place.

Hot off the Press:
The Old Bag Company has won the Federation of Small Business Awards. The Award catogory was Enterprise and Endeavour - "The Business Award for Enterprise and Endeavour was sponsored by Nat West Bank. The Judges were looking for businesses which had devised a strategy that changes the playing field, or to put it plainly, a clever idea at the heart of the business. There was only one clear winner, The Old Bag Company. Well done to Sally Hurst and her team, deserved winners of this award". Best Employee, Jackie Langman was shortlisted as one of the 4 finalist. Jackie is our Best Employee of 2010!
I have been invited to become a Fellow of the RSA (Royal Society of Arts) in recognition of my founding of The Old Bag Company and my prominent public position as an inspirational businesswomen. I am delighted and honoured to accept this Fellowship.
Confirmation of products for Winter 2010 and Summer 2011 include a ladies laptop bag, winter wool mix bags, party wrist bag, limited edition beach bag, scarves and umbrellas - we have been working very hard to offer our Old Bag customers, fans and friends a great new choice for the future.
New for 2010
We have a new collection of stripey Old Bags for this year. They are available in the popular Ellie Junior, Sophie and Charlotte and also the purses. We have designed 3 colours, Blue Lagoon, Candy Floss and Minstrel. These new colours give a very summery feel to our products and as we are all hoping for a "barbeque" summer this year am sure they will be as popular as the dotty collection.

The Old Bag Company is into LEATHER!! We have launched a gorgeous range of leather Old Bags in the highest quality soft leather and are available in Chocolate and Black. The bags have funky spotty lining and come with all the standard pockets, inside and out. The range is available in Ellie Junior, the very popular "grab and go" bag, the Sophie, our biggest selling bag, great for everyday use, shopping, going to work and traveling and the NEW Emma Handbag. This new design is fabulous and has a zip right across it making it a very secure Old Bag.
The good news is this new leather range is of great quality and still at an affordable price.

Another new addition is The Old Bag Mugs. They are made of fine bone china, designed in Devon and made in Stoke on Trent and has 5 different slogans to choose from, Gorgeous Old Bag, Hot Old Bag, The Original Old Bag, 40 Something Old Bag and 50 Something Old Bag.
The Girls and I spent a long time brainstorming Old Bag Slogans (some a bit risky) and decided on these 5. We would love to hear your ideas for future slogans.

Award Winning Old Bag - The National Enterprising Women Awards 2009 have been announced. At a glittering Awards lunch held in Cambridge the winners were announced and presented with their awards by "Secret Millionaire" Emma Harrison. The Inspirational Business Mum Award was won by Sally Hurst, me and I was delighted to have won this award as I am a mother of 5 and run a growing business which very much involves my 5 children. Although I won the Award I would not have done so without my Old Bag team who are as dedicated and driven as I am and all our customers who are Old Bag owners and of course my 5 children so thanks to all of you.

Winning Old Bag Company – Barclays Bank Family Affair, the search for the UK’s most enterprising family business. A judging panel led by Dragon’s Den winner and Reggae Reggae Sauce creator Levi Roots were looking for the nation’s most exciting and dynamic family business. Levi Roots said “The Old Bag Company is just a fantastic business. I would not have got where I am today with the backing of my family – so I know how important the support of family is to business success – the Hurst Family clearly stick together and they truly deserve to win”

It's all go.....
We had a great year last year at The Old Bag Company and we are really exited about this year with new designs and colours. We strive to offer a product with real personality, well made and at an affordable prices.
Everyone went SPOT mad last year with our Dotty Old Bag Ranges exceeding all sales forecast with sales being 5 dotty bags to every 1 plain. We have been delighted with the sales and the feedback from new and existing Old Bags and now have a growing following with the very select Old Bag Club growing daily, so thank you and if you have not purchased an Old Bag its time to do so - its "cool" to be an Old Bag!
The Baby Changing Bag proved to be a winner last year with the Choc Ice being the most popular colour . The Sophie Baby Changing Bag is modelled on the ever-so popular Sophie range. It has an extendable strap, even more inside pockets and a baby changing mat. The Old Bag Company WON The Most Innovative Company catogory at the South Devon Excellence Awards. We are delighted with this win it means a great deal to be recognised for this particular award as we are very proud of coming from Devon and it was born on our local Devon Beach!

We are proud to announce The Old Bag Company has chosen a charity to support.
FAMILIES FOR CHILDREN is a registered and approved voluntary adoption agency and charitable trust and operates across Devon, Cornwall and Dorset.(Patrons are Chef Michael Caines and Radio Presenter Judy Spiers) Their main focus is to find parents for children all over the country needing new adoptive families. Our mum (Sally) felt this was the perfect charity as she herself is adopted and the emphasis on The Old Bag Company is her 5 children.
Every Ellie Bag and Ellie Junior Bagsold we donate a percentage to the charity. Inside every Ellie bag is a label saying "by buying this bag you have donated a percentage to Families for Children, thank you".

BIG BROTHER had the Charlotte Bags in the House for their Beach Task, very exciting. The production company then invited Charlotte and Emma to an Eviction Night. They were so thrilled and were even on TV as they were standing behind Davina McCall. They now think The Old Bag Company is VERY COOL!.
The Old Bag Company is now selling through a catalogue in AUSTRALIA called Bambini Pronto. This is a very reputable catalogue and I was fortunate enough to meet the owners Megan and Tim when they were over here last year. This is very exciting for us as we feel the "Old Bags" will be perfect on Bondi Beach!
We are now working with a Company in Australia called A Hint of Europe who have secured outlets all over Australia selling The Old Bag Products.
